This weekend we (my cousins & I) are taking a trip to Norfolk...staying over night at a B&B. The main focus of the trip is to visit 18th-century Houghton Hall, which looks pretty fantastic...and even better, some of the Old Master paintings originally displayed in the hall, are on loan from the Hermitage. Once home to Great Britain's first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, the house is still very well preserved...so excited!

so with that, a quote on England's stately homes:
The stately homes of England!
 How beautiful they stand,
Amidst their tall ancestral trees,
O'er all the pleasant land!
~ Felicia Hemans (1794-1835)

Doesn't such types of homes just conjure Austen homes like Pemberley and Netherfield???
{'Pemberley' in the BBC version}

{& Netherfield, featured in the most recent adaptation of P&P}

 stay tuned for pics..

  1. ... or it may conjure up for us Lord Emsworth's immortal words as he cast his eyes over the expansive grounds of Blandings Castle (and, of course, the equally expansive Empress of Blandings, his prize pig) "The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage"
